It’s hard to be a parent of an active child these days. There are no more activities kids like to play. It’s not like when you were growing up. Going outside during a warm summer day was everything you looked forward to, and being confined to your room was the worst thing that could happen. Nowadays, keeping a child active is a very difficult task.
So how do you keep a child active so that they can maintain a healthy lifestyle? Making a few simple adjustments to their daily routine should do the trick.
Keep the TV Public
Keeping the television in a public part of the house will ensure that the children have to share the television. This will also allow you to better keep track of how much TV they are watching as well.
Daily and Weekly TV Allowances
This is a pretty straight forward idea. Make an allowance on how much TV they can watch per week and then let them divide it up how they would like. If it’s two hours and they blow it all in the first day then they will go the rest of the week without it. Kids need boundaries and it’s easy for them to watch TV for hours on end but it will only end up hurting them.
Make Exercise Mandatory
If you don’t let them watch TV before there homework is done, then make exercise as mandatory as homework. Exercise is a life-long necessity, so it should be a must, not a choice.
Make Television Active
With systems like the Nintendo Wii available, playing video games does not have to be a sedentary activity. If your child is going to play video games, try getting them to play something that keeps them moving.
